Entries from March 2009
Aye, mi gente!
Another week, another award-winning show!
So, the recap for March 19, 2009 goes just like this:
Fresh from our naps, B-Unit and I started things off with a lil catch-up. Shout-out to Momma Dukes a.k.a B-Unit’s mom!
Real quick, my bad for confusing “One More Drink” with “Blame it on the Alcohol!” Damn, tell me you can’t keep all these tracks featuring T-Pain straight! I mean, for real!
The first caller of the night was inevitably Rooster, who disturbed us only to have his call drop out, thanks to Gettro PCS aka MetroPaisa!!! Haha, well, he’ll call back…
Damn Rooster and his no-action-getting’ phone!!!
Our topic for the first hour was “Things girls/guys do that girls/guys don’t care about.” Right off the back, B-Unit had a grand topic to cover for us fellas:
B-Unit is at the bus stop, and a guy comes up to her and says “hey lil mama.”
B-Unit said, “Never is that my name….You could say excuse me to get my attention, first of all. Don’t come at me like ‘hey sexy, you lookin good!’ That is not attractive at all.”
OK, comprendo.
I revealed what I feel is what girls are doing too much with….But to hear it, you gotta hit up the podcast! Sac State Sunset Podcast site: http://djdubv.podbean.com
After a some Tito el Bambino, Rooster came back on the phone requestation line: “Vince! My call got dropped! Relax, I was in the grocery store!”
Rooster filled the ladies in on what it is that us guys don’t care about: “A really ridiculous amount of jewelry.”
Rooster referenced a chick walking down the hall with hella jewelry to somebody walking to down the hall with a pack of Tic-Tacs.
In response, B-Unit explained to us that the jewelry she wears relates to her current mood that day…Yes, you need to listen to the podcast to understand this! http://djdubv.podbean.com
Right up after, B-Unit brought the Sports Report to the air. In Softball, Sac State won and lost its first two games of the 17th annual Capitol Classic Softball Tournament. Hornets beat Colorado State 8-7 but fell to BYU 9-2. The Sac State Gymnastics goes into the WACK Championships! It all goes down Saturday March 21, 2009 here in the Hornet’s Nest. Mount-off starts at 6PM; find out how they did at www.hornetsports.com. This is just taste of the Sports Report; catch the whole thing in the podcast, streaming @ http://djdubv.podbean.com.
**March Madness gets B-Unit “hot and bothered.”**
Jackie the Boss called in after the commercial break to fill us in on what guys do that girls don’t care about, and vice versa.
Not wasting any time, Jackie explained how it is not cool for a guy to try and get at any chick using the phrases “hey!,” “hay, baby girl!,” or “DAMN you thick!” Apparently these are definite declines in her book.
Jackie and I did a re-enactment of how this might go down….listen to the podcast to get the full laugh…
Before letting us go, Jackie also explained that yelling out where you are from does not increase your chances of getting a girl interested in you:
“I’m from East Oakland! I’m from East Oakland!” – not the right thing to do.
The list doesn’t stop there, hit up the podcast at http://djdubv.podbean.com to get it all!
We had to take a break after that segment, but after a few more songs, Mentes Diferentes was in the studio!
Freshly representing the Latino music scene, Mentes Diferentes, a.k.a. The Desperados, talked about who they are, where they come from, and what the early days were like.
Vicious V, Reckless Reaction and Kron are the laid-back, open-minded gentlemen that make up The Desperados. Don’t let their easy-going manner fool you, however, because behind the mic, pencil, and guitar they are a forced to be reckoned with.
Reflecting on previous performances and being in the studio, the Desperados said that some of their influences and inspirations include Mexican artists from back in the ‘70s.
Check out the podcast to listen to their own words and their own music: http://djdubv.podbean.com
When writing music, Vicious V said he tries to write is like a story, but it’s all coming from freewill and real life experiences.
Keeping it on lock, The Desperados have three studios sprinkled throughout the campus as well as a full “camp” that represents Mentes Diferentes, collectively. It’s a small army of musical soldiers ranging from The Brown Hustlers to Ivan Franco. Don’t know who these guys are? You gotta hit up the Mentes Diferentes myspace page for the 411: http://www.myspace.com/mentesdiferentesofficial
“Music is a feeling, and we just do it, we feel it, we hear it, we think it, and we just throw it down.” – Reckless Reaction.
The Desperados’ recording sessions are based mainly on jam sessions and get studio get-togethers. Reckless Reaction, el ingeniero, records the sessions and from there, it gets molded into the tracks of music that you hear on their myspace page.
Basically, if you didn’t already have Mentes Diferentes on your radar, you need to check up on what you’ve been missing!
The Desperados have a handful of shows coming up this Spring – hit up their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/mentesdiferentesofficial) for the calendar of all the events!

There you are, mi gente!
Haha, so here I am, throwing you the recap for March 12, 2009!
Starting things out, I was workin on a little segment called “If I were you…” where people could call in and ask what I would do if I were their situation. It worked lightweight!
Caller Randall hit me up on the Requestation line to let us know that the KSSU.com website was not streaming…what else is new? I happily directed him to our Dub V TV site: www.vibedesignstudio.com/dubv << Check that out! He also requested Ivy Queen, so we played “Dime” for him. Ya tu sabation!
Después de un poco de Reggaeton, Sac Town Clubs promoter and fitness expert Ernie joined me in the studio to discuss his recent experience with studying and passing exams. This turned into an “If I were you…” segment, which I think ended up working out really well.
Somehow, we ended up giving out advice to overweight people who wish or need to become fit. Basically, it can all be done by going to www.abdomnialfatburn.com/blog . Subscribe to that blog and watch yourself get buff! (you have to do what it says though.)
After the break, B-Unit Rossman was in the building, still feeling a little fatigued from last week’s sickness. In the Sports Report, she updated that Sac State Gymnastics was hosting Cal Berkeley, Seattle Pacific, and UC Davis for their Senior Night on March 13th. B-Unit and I decided that for gymnastics, we say the “mount off” begins at 7:30…not to be confused with “the mounting begins at 7:30.” Yikes.
In softball, Brittany Clifford threw a one-hit shutout against UC Davis! It was a double-header sweep that day that included a three-run triple. This is just a teaspoon sample of the Sports Report, check out the podcast for the whole thing, and stay in tune with all Hornet Sports 24/7 at www.hornetsports.com
I explained to B-Unit that to my brother, a “three-run triple” is when he ate a lot of Mexican food and couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time…hit up the podcast at http://djdubv.podbean.com to hear the whole story…
Chatting with our affiliates and friends the Morris Brothers (founders of Morris League Baseball), they called in to explain the contest they have coming up. They are looking for someone to record their new theme song for the Morris League. The Morris League theme song will be featured in video reels, websites, and even live on the field. Hit up their website www.morrisleague.com and www.myspace.com/morrisleague for applications, more info, and to try out for the team for the Spring League as well. Shout-out to Donte & Dominic Morris!
B-Unit and I continued with my Dr. Dub segment in “If I were you…” B-Unit gave me a clean example I couldn’t resist: Rihanna, after the “Chris Brown thing.”
B-Unit: “I’m walking down the street, then I see Rihanna…What would you do? What would I do?”
I gave this one all I got, and let’s just say it involves a light shaking, therapy session, domestic violence intervention, etc…hit up the podcast to hear the whole story: http://djdubv.podbean.com/dubv
Stepping in the studio at 9 was Aquifer!
Nick Bianco, Tommy Fox and Brannum Goldsmith make up the rap trio from Amador County. Since we last spoke in the studio, Brannun was added to the group, performances had been in the cards and a new album has been brewing in the lab.
Brannum explained how the collaborations go down and talked about the new album coming later this year – Cavendish’s Papers.
Setting the bar above the mainstream hip hop, Aquifer best defines their music as “activism-infused hip hop.” Pro-free thought and making music for the advancement of mankind are what Aquifer are all about.
Nick explained a little bit about what “Cavendish’s Papers” is. Well, it all starts off with a man named Dr. Cavendish, who was an anti-social genius…Where does this story go? You must listen to the podcast to heat the rest of the story along with the full Aquifer interview at http://djdubv.podbean.com
While you wait for their new album, you can get your hands on their previous album Room for Growth, and discover all their music at www.aquifermusic.com and www.myspace.com/aquifermusic .
A beard is a distinguishment of a man, and Aquifer are definitely distinguished.
Brannum: “A gut is like a beard that you can put on your face..”
Dub: “…and it’s hard to get rid of too!”
Christening the new stage at Beatnik Studios downtown on Broadway and 17th (Sacramento, CA), Aquifer and I chatted about their upcoming gig, working with other artists and groups, and the unmatched support of their partners in crime - their ladies.
Unlike any other group we’ve had in the studio, Aquifer have a unique, down-to-earth style that is hard to come by in the music scene now a days. “We’re in the business of oxymorons,” said Brannum .
“Being an anti-social entertainer…it’s a rough business,” Nick revealed.
Enough reading my recap of the show, you need to quit wondering what they sound like and actually listen to this show on the podcast at http://djdubv.podbean.com .
I tip my sombrero to the gentlemen of Aquifer for delivering the previously unseen swagger that is vegan and activism-inspired. That’s swagger you can’t buy in stores, kids.
SHOUT OUT TO www.CAITLOPER.com ! Beautiful photography with unmatched style!
Oh yes, if you wanna hear my robot-human theory, please hang on til the end of the show, jajaja..
Dear me, the playlist:
- Veo Veo – Yaga y Mackie
- Virtual Diva – Don Omar
- Dime – Ivy Queen
- No Energy – TNT
- Drop it Keep it Sexy Tho – Dice
- One More Drink – Ludacris feat. T-Pain

We’re finally back up in it 100%, mi gente!
Holding down the show solo tonight, I paid tribute to all the futuristic music while B-Unit was out sick.
The first hour of music was what I like to call “Futuristication.” I highlighted songs and artists that have gone inter-galactic with their music style. Peek the playlist tracks 1-6 to get a good understanding of what I’m talking about…
The topic for the night was “cheating.” Have you ever cheated on a test, significant other, the elderly, etc.
After my story of how and my friends and I used to cheat on high school vocabulary tests, Rooster called in to share his story on cheating. According to legend, Rooster had did some “serious” cheating on a history test…The story involves failing, writing 150 words on a spine of lined paper, and ultimately, failing the class again? Hit up the podcast at http://djdubv.podbean.com to hear the whole story…
Dub V: “…and that’s why Rooster’s still 21 and getting his GED at Watsonville High.”
Rooster: “Low blow man, low blow!”
After a song break, the lovely little Maribel called in from Chico to share her high school story on cheating…It involves her Veggie Bunch Club (they promoted healthy eating) and an entire class. Her club gave out a bunch of pens with slogans that promote healthy eating (“Eat five a day!”). The pens were clear on the inside. The students who got their pens wrote as many answers as they could onto a little piece of paper and then stuffed it into the pens that they were going to use on the test! GENIUS! Find out which vegetable mascot Maribel was by hitting up the podcast here: http://djdubv.podbean.com
After the commercial break, TNT was in the studio! Brought up in Sacramento, TNT started his career up in high school and was heavily influenced by his father who also wrote lyrics.
It wasn’t long for the phone requestation line to light up with callers wanting to hear the latest from TNT!
Unaffected by bling, reputation and all the other stereotypical things that are often related to rappers and their lifestyles, TNT keeps his rhymes refined, fresh, and relatable – especially on his latest single “No Energy.”
Jay-Dizzle called into the show to insist that we take the show into “NBA Overtime” and play TNT’s tracks the whole rest of the night! Hit up the podcast to listen to the calls and the interview at http://djdubv.podbean.com
Later in the interview, TNT spoke about how he got his name, his future plans, and who’s “doin’ it wrong” in mainstream hip-hop right now. Yes, we both agree that Lil’ Wayne has lost it.
*TNT does not use the auto-tune and prefers to keep it real. *
Staying four steps ahead of his competition, TNT gave us a little scoop on what’s in store for the future…This also led to a ridiculously terrible story about losing some lyrics in the club…How? Hit up the podcast to hear the story: http://djdub.podbean.com/
To much of our delighted surprise, Grizz called in to dish out some gossip with TNT and I…Here are some highlights:
Details that Chris Brown and Rihanna are back together after the beat-down, DMX was knockin’ some skulls with some dinner trays, and J.Lo and Marc Anthony (A.K.A. J-Gordo & Skeletor) are suing a kid’s company that makes baby strollers.
I allege that TNT’s License plate reads “Panty Mobile” – hit the podcast to find out
Ah, the life of the of rich and the stupid! HIT THE PODCAST ALREADY: http://djdubv.podbean.com
One of TNT’s most loyal and in-love fans called in to get all excited on the air – big shout-out to Shayna who wanted to hear some “You and Me” by TNT! That’s what’s up!
You need to know that the next TNT album is coming in November, and you can go ahead and add him on his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/thisistnt
Shout out to Jackie the Boss!
Aight, aye te va el playlist:
1. Subete - Alexis y Fido
2. One More Drink - Ludacris feat. T-Pain
3. Virtual Diva - Don Omar
4. Veo Veo - Yaga y Mackie

6. Cuerpo Sensual - Rakim y Ken-Y feat. Don Omar
7. No Energy - TNT
